Our studio in the desert

Lichen and Jessie have arrived in the Agafay desert outside of Marrakech, Morocco at La Pause residency. Over the next five weeks, they will collaborate closely on their shared practice, Biomutualism – a joint endeavour exploring symbiotic relationships in nature, culture and economics.

During the residency, they will explore collaboration with local craftspeople, as well as investigating the materiality of seaweed, in response to the residency’s location in close proximity to kelp beds that produce much of the world’s agar. In late February, they will present outcomes at an exhibition in Marrakech.
